There’s nothing like discovering your “genius” neighbor is actually hoarding close to 30 dead bodies in his small apartment. Anatoly Moskvin, 45, has been charged with desecrating cemeteries after authorities discovered the corpses of 29 women that had been mummified and dressed up as life size dolls. Unfortunately, there is more to this disturbing story. Moskvin also apparently stuffed the corpses chests with various objects such as music boxes and toy hearts, among other things. “There was something particular in the chest of practically every mummy. When we tried to move one of the bodies, the room unexpectedly filled with music,” said one investigator. The police video depicts a frightening scene showing his vast collection of mummies dressed in brightly colored clothes made to look like dolls. He was a historian who spoke 13 different languages, was revered as a genius by his neighbors, and gave frequent lectures at local museums as he was considered one of the leading experts on cemeteries. It’s always the seemingly normal, well-respected community members that have the most twisted dark secrets. Moskvin previously stated that he started exploring cemeteries when he was in 7th grade, and has been fascinated ever since. In fact, he claims that he investigated over 750 cemeteries between 2005 and 2007, often walking distances of 20 miles.
For what’s estimated to be at least 15 years, Moskvin has been digging up graves at nearby cemeteries and stealing the bodies for his “collection” at home.
